There are many accessories that can increase safety, style and long service of a walking stick. The most common accessory is a hand strap. It prevents loss of the stick should the hand release its grip. These are often threaded through a hole drilled into the stick rather than tied around. A wrist strap is a great way to keep your cane from falling over when you need two free hands. It is attached to the cane with an elastic loop. Never wear wrist strap when walking up or down an incline. It is also important to note, in the event of a fall it is best to throw your cane away. Otherwise, it could become a weapon and harm you.
A cane tip is used to increase safe traction on slippery surface. Rubber cane tips/ferrell gives extra traction on most surfaces. These tips fit many hiking staffs that are made directly from naturally grown wood.
